What is BCI?

The Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) is the world’s leading sustainability initiative for cotton. The initiative is on a mission to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment. It supports farming communities socially, environmentally, and economically by training farmers to embrace innovative and modern practices that reduce waste and emissions while encouraging decent work and gender equality within the industry. Today almost a quarter of the world’s cotton is produced under the Better Cotton Standard, and 2.4 million cotton farmers have been trained in sustainable farming practices and are licensed to grow Better Cotton. The BCI’s three strategic aims consist of:

1. Embedding sustainable farming practices and policies
2. Promoting well-being and economic development
3. Driving global demand for sustainable cotton

How does BCI benefit all parties across the value chain?

• Better for smallholders, who can use the knowledge, support and resources we provide to grow cotton – and other crops – more sustainably. Improving soil health, water management, greenhouse gas emissions and climate resilience.

• Better for retailers and brands who know that cotton that’s good for people and planet is equally good for business.
• Better for consumers who, from a glance at a logo, know that what they’re buying is made by those who share their values.

By buying Better Cotton products from TO THE MARKET, you’re supporting responsible cotton production through the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI)! We will be able to offer our clients the benefits of having the Better Cotton logo included on their product labeling and packaging. We are committed to sourcing cotton in the most ethical and sustainable way, by seeking certifications against standards like the Global Organic Textiles Standard (GOTS) and being members of initiatives like BCI.
