WHY YOUR PURCHASE MAKES A DIFFERENCE
WHY YOUR PURCHASE MAKES A DIFFERENCE
TO THE MARKET is committed to building a better world by empowering people to harness their purchasing power to make a difference. By joining forces with underrepresented artisans and makers worldwide who provide safe, dignified, and fairly paid work to their employees, we take steps toward changing the retail industry for good by creating products that are better for people and better for the planet.
We love our planet and we have a hunch you do to. That is why we lean on a demand-driven supply chain that uses sustainable processes and materials, like organic cotton, up-cycled fabrics, and natural dyes. Many of our suppliers hold some of the highest standard and third party certifications like GOTS.
TO THE MARKET is proud to be a Certified B Corporation. We're an ethical and sustainable supply chain company using business as a force for good. B Corp Certification serves as a foundational element to our business model and reinforces our commitment to powering an ethical supply chain and harnessing purchasing power for good. As part of the B Corp community, we've proven our devotion to working toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities, and the creation of high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose, all of which is closely aligned with our vision of doing business that is better for people and better for the planet.
TO THE MARKET is proud to be certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), the largest third party certifier of businesses owned and operated by women in the US. With only a small percentage of contracts going to women-owned businesses, we are proud to add value to our clients through our ethical and sustainability supply chain.
Our founder and CEO, Jane Mosbacher Morris, was working at the U.S. Department of State on counterterrorism and women’s empowerment issues when she realized the best way to empower women was to help connect the work they do with those who want to buy it. During her time at the Department of State, Jane identified two significantly under-served markets:
On the demand side, enormous interest (especially from millennials and Gen Z) for ethically made products. People want to see the same transparency in the fashion world that now exists within the food and beverage space.
On the supply side, an incredible untapped production capacity around the world, particularly in the artisan industry. It’s the second-largest economy in the developing world, behind agriculture, but is largely disconnected from the supply chains of traditional retailers and corporations.
Jane is named by Fortune as one of the World’s 25 Greatest Leaders: Heroes of the Pandemic.
