Intern Feature: Natalie Hirsch

We wouldn’t be where we are without our hardworking staff. ESPECIALLY our interns! For the next month, we’ve decided to showcase our five interns and the incredible work they do behind the scenes.

We’re kicking things off with Natalie Hirsch. A sophomore at the University of Maryland, Natalie is a double major in Marketing and Supply Chain Management. She joined this summer after learning about TO THE MARKET from her sister (and former intern!) Jeannie.

What are you working on with TO THE MARKET?

I am currently interviewing companies TTM has interacted with -- to learn more about them and to feature their work through our blog. This way, TTM can highlight organizations with other impactful missions.

Do your activities at TO THE MARKET line up with what you’re studying at school or your future career?

100%. TTM aligns with my passions for positively changing the world we want to live in and is the perfect start to a future in business. Not only am I learning about the retail industry and the importance of ethically sourcing merchandise, but I am also learning about the different aspects of representing and creating a brand. My dream career is to work for a marketing firm in New York City with a positive impact on the world. A work environment as inspiring and committed as TTM would be an added bonus.

Before TTM, I was already involved with sustainability on my campus. However, the club I am a part of educates students on protecting the ocean. TTM is refreshing because I can’t clean the oceans every day, but I can be a conscious consumer every time I go to the store. I look forward to using the knowledge from this internship to make sustainable purchasing decisions throughout my life and to help inspire my classmates to do the same.

What’s your favorite thing about working at TTM?

By far, the best part about working with TTM is how passionate everyone is about TTM’s mission and how much everyone cares about each other. The foundation of the company is to positively shape the world, and it shows.

I love how the core of TTM is to help others through your everyday spending. As Jane mentions, we can “vote with our wallets.” Why not use our purchasing power to support what we believe in? I love that TTM takes the time to develop relationships with its suppliers and purchases goods that empower the people that produce them.

What would you love to see TTM do in the next five years?

I would love to see TTM inspiring consumers to look at the tags of products and know the background of the items in their closet. I’m excited to see the company continue to grow, expand its public platform, and further connect large businesses to smaller suppliers to make everyday supply chains more sustainable.
